Florida Keys Travel Guide

Key West is home to the southernmost point in the continental United States and some great key lime pie. Along the way, there are many towns that are worth a quick stopover before arriving in Key West. One town in particular is Islamorada that is home to beautiful coral reefs, sea activities and a marina filled with exciting offerings. Another city along the way is Marathon which offers the opportunity to interact with dolphins at the Dolphin Research Center as well as nature trails and kayaking. Keep reading for recommendations of things to do and places to dine at while visiting the Florida Keys and see more on YouTube here!

Islamorada

Robbie’s Marina of Islamorada

This marina features a bar, restaurant, an open air market, a tarpon feeding area, paddle boarding, kayaking and jet skiing. You can even catch your own fish and have it filleted for lunch or dinner.

Theater of the Sea

Swimming with dolphins is a main highlight here but you can also meet sea turtles, sea lions and more. There are a lot of activities to do here as well as snorkeling.

Morada Bay Restaurant

The ambiance and food here is quite fantastic. I personally ordered a thai coconut curry dish and they were able to substitute the chicken and shrimp for mahi-mahi. Overall, fantastic spot for lunch when you’re driving down to Key West. The beach cafe and Pierre’s restaurant overlook the ocean and there’s nothing like it.

Indian Key Historic State Park

You can paddle board or kayak in this park that was once inhabited and now a ghost town of sorts. There are numerous state parks and beaches along this route to check out so be sure to explore and get adventurous on your vacation.

Marathon

Dolphin Research Center

Swim and meet some dolphins and sea lions while learning more from the trainers and educational theater.

Aquarium Encounters Florida Keys

Similarly, you can explore the coral reefs via their coral reef tank, snorkel in the lagoon, or even experience the different aquatic exhibits here.

Sombrero Beach

This beach isn’t much for swimming but the views are breath-taking especially closer to sunset.

Key West

Old Town Mexican Cafe

Probably my favorite tacos that I had that week. They were a part of the Taco Tuesday special and I highly recommend if you’re looking for a quick spot to grab lunch or dinner. We tried a blackened salmon taco and some fried avocado tacos. They were both equally delicious and flavorful. The texture of the avocado was fantastic and the salmon was tender and smokey.

Key Lime Pie Co.

I remember getting key lime pie in Key West when I was younger and being disappointed. On this particular vacation, I felt like giving it another shot. I am glad that I did because this pie was soft and more of a creme-based pie with a softer crust which I prefer.

Mac’s Sea Garden

This is the cutest souvenir shop with a variety of offerings. I love the shells and home decor pieces here. It’s definitely worth a visit, particularly if you are looking for some nautical home decor.

Better than Sex Dessert Restaurant

This place specializes in cheeky desserts and can definitely satisfy your sweet tooth.

Key West Art and Historical Society

The Custom House and Lighthouse are two main attractions that are worth a visit. They are both open from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Dry Tortugas National Park

This is a series of islands with coral reefs that you can charter a ferry to visit. Dry Tortugas National Park is approximately 70 miles off the coast of Key West. Ticket sales can also be purchased on-site in Key West. It is necessary to allocate a full day for this as there is a boat ride, tour and sea activities to partake in depending on the package.

As you can see, one day in the Florida Keys is not enough time for all that there is to do there. If you’re interested in more details, check out my YouTube video here! Don't forget to give the video a like and subscribe if you're new there!
